About

Angelica, Consuelo and Beulah
This is a story about a Mexican-American family who came to Iowa to care for the children’s grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
In addition to integrating themselves into the household as they cared for Granma, the family established ties with other local Hispanic residents of a Midwestern community that has a sizable population of immigrants from Mexico and Central America.
Their experiences reflected not only many of the differences between Hispanic immigrants and the mainly white residents of the Midwest, but how these cultures share many similarities as well.
Through gentle care, love, trust and companionship, the Mexican woman and her American mother-in-law formed a strong bond that transcended language and cultural differences. And this is their story.
